SPACEMAN Trailer Reveals Paul Dano’s Strange Celestial Spider

Anyone who watched Adam Sandler in 2019’s Uncut Gems knows he a lot more than a comedian. He’s a world class dramatic actor, too. Now he’s getting a chance to show off his serious side again. The new trailer for Netflix’s Spaceman promises an intense drama with Sandler as an solo astronaut fighting for both his marriage and his sanity. Well, he’s either fighting for his sanity or he made the greatest discovery in human history, because this new look at the film is also our first look at the strange creature he meets (or imagines) out in the cosmos. Paul Dano is the voice of a giant and wise space spider.

In. All in. Give us Spaceman right now because this trailer is absolutely fantastic. What exactly is going on, though? Here’s the film’s official synopsis from Netflix:

Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (voiced by Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late.

Spaceman comes from director Johan Renck (Chernobyl, Breaking Bad), with a script from Colby Day. The film is based Jaroslav Kalfař’s novel Spaceman of Bohemia. It also stars Kunal Nayyar as a technician named Peter. And the legendary Isabella Rossellini plays Jakub’s commanding officer, Commissioner Tuma. It takes flight at Netflix on March 1.

We’ll be ready for takeoff when it does. We love Hanuš and will protect his soothing voice at all costs. We don’t care if he’s real or not. And we also can’t wait to see Adam Sandler act opposite a possibly imaginary talking space spider. That might sound like a funny premise, but we know it’ll be much more than that.
