Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s big mecha baddie is back. Not in a new video game, though. He’s getting his very own play set. You’ll now be able to launch a little toy version of everyone’s favorite blue speedster at a giant Dr. Eggman robot. And you’ll still be able to take him down.
Jakks Pacific is letting Sonic fans take on one Dr. Robotnik‘s most infamous forms. The new nine-inch scale Giant Dr. Eggman Robot Battle Set (which we first heard about at Kotaku) brings the video game boss to life. With a highly-detailed toy that doubles as a fantastic collectible. Though with all of its features, it won’t be easy to just place this on a shelf. You’ll want to play with it. From Jakks Pacific:
“You can recreate the action from the games with this extraordinarily detailed battle set and its playable features. Including a Spin Attack Sonic figure and catapult, where you can drop Sonic in and launch him at the Giant Eggman Robot. The Giant Eggman Robot features a rotating damage progression chest plate, a jetpack with sliding booster flames, launchable hand missiles and articulated limbs. Build your Giant Eggman Robot Battle Set into a Sonic world by adding more Sonic friends, playsets and accessories (each sold separately).”
Jakks Pacific/Target
The Spin Attack posed Sonic figure and push button catapult measures 2.5-inches. To defeat Dr. Eggman, whose jetpack also features sliding retractable flames, you’ll need to hit his chest plate three times. He’s easy to put back together. But with the inclusion of small parts he’s recommended for ages seven and up.
You can order yours at Amazon, GameSpot, BigBadToyStore, Entertainment Earth, and Target. Depending on the retailer it can be yours for anyone between $40 and $45. It’s already sold out in some spots, which is not a surprise. Taking down Dr. Eggman virtually was fun almost three decades ago. Doing it in person will be even better.
