Next month, Warner Animation releases its long-awaited adaptation of one of the greatest DC graphic novels of all time, Batman: The Long Halloween. But this story is just too epic and seminal to contain in just one movie. Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One comes out June 22, but later this year sees the arrival of Part Two. And thanks to IGN, we’ve got our first trailer for this second chapter, which you can view right here:
For those of you unfamiliar with this story, originally written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale, it takes place across one year early in Batman’s career. This is an era when the traditional mob started to lose its grip on crime in Gotham City. Villains like the Joker are starting to take over. In the midst of all of this chaos, a new serial killer emerges, known as the Holiday Killer. This classic murder mystery also sees the definitive take on the origin of Two-Face. It was also a big influence on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Warner Bros. Animation
Batman: The Long Halloween features the voice acting of Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles as Bruce Wayne/Batman, along with the late Naya Rivera as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Josh Duhamel as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Billy Burke as James Gordon, Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone, David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man, and Troy Baker as the Joker. New characters for Part Two include Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, and the Mad Hatter.
Ackles once played Jason Todd in the animated adaptation of Batman: Under the Red Hood. So in a way, the second Robin finally graduated to becoming the Batman himself. Part One of The Long Halloween arrives on digital and Blu-ray on June 22. No release date for Part Two is known yet, but we expect it in the fall. Just in time for Halloween of course.
