What could be better than diving into another River Song adventure? A River Song adventure written by none other than Alex Kingston, of course. The BBC recently revealed that the ever-popular Doctor Who character will have her own sci-fi noir novel releasing on May 20. There are no major spoilers about the content, but the synopsis will certainly pique fans’ interest.
The Ruby’s Curse will bring River Song together with Melody Malone, her fictional alter ego and protagonist of the Melody Malone Mysteries series. The duo end up in 1939 New York to find the Eye of Horus. River believes it is a reality-altering weapon; meanwhile, Melody is simply looking for a stolen ruby that may reveal the location of Cleopatra’s tomb.

River Song’s mission to retrieve the weapon before it alters the entire universe gets quite dangerous. She can only succeed by working with Melody to solve this mystery. The Ruby’s Curse will go from “the top-security confines of Stormcage to the barbarism of first-century Egypt” as River and Melody save the world. It’s sure to be double the one-liners, action, and fun with these two.
Kingston spoke to the BBC about her incredible journey with this character since her 2008 debut. “Having absolutely no idea of the journey I would be taking with River Song when I first uttered those words, ‘Hello Sweetie’, I cannot begin to express how excited I am to be able to continue not only River, but Melody’s adventures on the written page,” said Kingston. “A sassy private detective and a time-traveling archaeologist joining forces to solve a mystery? What’s not to love!?”
