Before Godzilla vs. Kong, or Batman v. Superman, the biggest pop culture cinematic brawl happened between two slasher legends. In 2003, supernatural slashers Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger finally came to blows in Freddy vs. Jason. But really, shouldn’t these two prolific killers of horny teenagers really be friends and not foes? This latest brilliant horror parody music video from The Merkins seems to think so. And we concur.
“More Than Burns” is a send up of the 1990 hit song “More Than Words” from the rock band Extreme. (is there a more ’90s name for a band than Extreme by the way?) If you weren’t around in the ’90s, you might not realize that song was huge and had a metric ton of MTV airplay. The video is a pretty simple black and white affair. And one that The Merkins have mimicked perfectly with Freddy, Jason, and a cameo from the corpse of Pamela Voorhees. Our favorite part is when they replace the original’s La di da, da di da, di dai dai da verse with Jason’s signature “ma ki ki ma ki ki ma” sound effects.
The Merkins
The Merkins have made several horror song parodies over the past few years. Most focus on the main iconic cinematic slashers. Michael Myers does a hilarious Halloween rendition of George Michael’s “Faith, ” while Ghostface from Scream sings “I Just Called to Say I’ll Kill You.” Pennywise dances his butt off in a spot-on recreation of the talent show scene from Napoleon Dynamite. But the Merkins seem to especially love poking fun at ’90s boy bands. They have several different song parodies for “the Slashstreet Boys.” For more of their brilliant horror/pop music mash-ups, be sure to head on over to The Merkins’ YouTube channel.
