SPIDERMAN: HOMECOMING Retro Movie Posters Reference THE BREAKFAST CLUB, FERRIS BUELLER, and More

While it’s certainly debatable whether or not the ’70s and ’80s were the last great eras for Hollywood movies, one thing is for sure: they were the last great eras for movie posters. By the time the ’90s rolled around, the movie studios had discovered Photoshop, and seemingly every movie poster we got was a series of floating heads, or one head in half silhouette. This would later be replaced in the 21st century by the “Main character showing of his or (usually) her butt” posters. You know which ones I mean.

But thankfully, there are still some awesome movie posters being made, as evidenced by this latest batch of retro flavored alternate movie posters for America’s #1 hit movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Since the movie is very much based on the classic John Hughes teen comedies of the 1980s, it makes sense that the first two Spidey posters are based on some of Hughes’ best well known films. Of course, The Breakfast Club is among these, with Peter Parker, his best pal Ned, bully Flash, recluse Michelle, and Peter’s crush Liz standing in for the Brat Pack.

And Spidey’s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off poster would make Matthew Broderick himself proud.

But maybe my favorite of these posters, just because it’s so out of left field, is the homage to Martin Scorsese’s 1976 classic Taxi Driver. Probably the very last movie I would ever think of in relation to Spider-Man: Homecoming… but hey, a cool poster is a cool poster.
