POKÉMON THE MOVIE: I CHOOSE YOU! is the Origin Story We’ve Been Waiting For

The latest Pokémon film, Pokémon The Movie: I Choose You!, is being billed as a newly told origin story, heavily inspired by the first season of the original anime series. Even though it supposedly won’t include staple characters Misty and Brock, we’re still excited for this one, especially since the first English language trailer has just been revealed.

The minute-long clip shows the key plot points we remember from the beloved TV show: Ash gets his disobedient Pikachu, they eventually bond after some mutually experienced strife, and they run into a Ho-Oh with Ash vowing, “Together, someday, let’s meet that Pokémon!” It doesn’t reveal as much as the Japanese trailer did, which previously teased the inclusion of non-first-generation Pokémon and a pair of new trainer pals (who we now know are named Verity and Sorrel), but it’s still enough to get us amped for the 20th Pokémon movie.

There are a couple of fun promotions tied to the stateside release of the movie as well. Remember going to Pokémon movies as a kid and getting a special, limited edition Pokémon Trading Card Game card? Well this time around, you’ll be able to snag a free, never-before-seen card of Ash’s Pikachu wearing its trainer’s hat. Pokémon Sun and Moon players will also be able to claim just one of an exclusive version of Pikachu during the following dates, so choose wisely:

September 19–25: Ash’s Pikachu (Original Cap)
September 26 – October 2: Ash’s Pikachu (Hoenn Cap)
October 3–9: Ash’s Pikachu (Sinnoh Cap)
October 10–16: Ash’s Pikachu (Unova Cap)
October 17–23: Ash’s Pikachu (Kalos Cap)
October 24–30: Ash’s Pikachu (Alola Cap)
