The trailer has the return of the old friends we made back in season one like Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham, Doug Jones’ Saru, and Mary Wiseman’s Sylvia Tilly, among others. And while it’s great to see our favorite crew back in action, we also get a look at some new faces that we’ll see on the Discovery this season. Take a look at the trailer to see for yourself.
One of the big changes facing the Discovery this season is new leadership–namely the introduction of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). We can’t wait to see him in action once episodes release to see what kind of an energy he brings to the ship. But the big news of season two is the fact that we’ll get to see Michael Burnham’s foster brother–the one and only Spock. While the trailer doesn’t give us any sort of a look at Spock, Michael does mention him enough to make it seem like he will play a big part in the main story arc for the season.
It’s a bit of a risky move, bringing in such a beloved, long-standing character into the show, but Discovery has been hailed by critics and fans alike for walking that thin line between making Star Trek: Discovery feel fresh and new while also keeping the spirit of original Star Trek series.
Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a release date for season two, but it will reportedly release in early 2019.
What do you think of the season two trailer? What are you most excited to see in the new season? What are your theories about what is to come for the Discovery crew? Let us know in the comments!
