What’s Next for the SPIDER-VERSE After the Success of VENOM?

Venoms reviews might have been a mixed bag, but the story at box office has been sacks of money. Despite its lack of critical acclaim, audiences have found a symbiotic relationship with Tom Hardy’s super antihero, as the film has cleaned up at the box office. Just how much? It has made more money than any X-Men movie ever, and that includes Deadpool. Yeah, at $780 million worldwide ticket sales Venom has made more money than ****ing Deadpool. That level of success, which includes being the third highest grossing film ever in China, guarantees we’re getting more Eddie Brock going forward. But what will it mean for the rest of Sony’s Spider-verse? What other characters will show up? Will that include Peter Parker?

On today’s Nerdist News, host Jessica Chobot looks at what the massive success of the MCU-adjacent movie might mean for Sony‘s plans for the rest of their burgeoning cinematic universe. We’re definitely going to see Tom Hardy, who is under contract for at least two more movies, again. We also know Woody Harrelson will bring Carnage into the fold. But how will Jared Leto’s living vampire Morbius get involved? What other Spidey-connected characters will follow him? Which ones can stand alone without Peter Parker around. Unless that is Spider-Man, whose rights Sony only loaned to Marvel for the MCU, will eventually be involved in his own cinematic universe.

It’s strange that instead of wondering if Venom would work on his own, the biggest questions we have about the Spider-Verse are whether or not Spider-Man will be involved, and how that would even happen?

A box office of $780 million answers a lot of questions, but not all of them.

What do you think the future of Sony’s Spider-Verse looks like? Who will show up? Tell us your best guesses in the comments below.
