DreamWorks’ She-Ra and the Princesses of Power captured the attention of fans of Masters of the Universe from the moment it was announced. I watched the ’80s animated series and remember it being one of the first shows that made me covet action figures so I could make my own She-Ra adventures. I was interested when I heard about the reboot and learned Lumberjanes creator Noelle Stevenson would be the showrunner, and now that the first teaser is here, I am one hundred percent in.
Adora is called to her destiny in the footage, and though she’s confused about her role, she accepts the Sword of Protection and transforms into She-Ra in a gorgeous sequence that is straight up magical girl and comes with the iconic “For the honor of Grayskull!.” It gave me chills. I’m getting serious Sailor Moon vibes from just those few seconds.
The art style is vastly different from the original show, and that makes sense since it’s been 20 years. The reimagined look for She-Ra is fresh, unique, and has a sort of power and confidence. In fact, based on the stills we’ve seen so far, the fashion in this series is going to be on point.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power arrives on Netflix on November 16. Not soon enough in my opinion. I need it yesterday.
