Robin Williams’ JUMANJI Character Will Play a Big Role in the Sequel

It’s been over 20 years since the original Jumanji hit the big screen, and now, a sequel is finally on the way. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will be led by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, all taking the reins from the late, great  Robin Williams. Although the iconic comedian isn’t around to contribute to this film, Black recently told The Hollywood Reporter that Williams’ spirit and his literal character are very important to this new movie ( via Entertainment Weekly).

“We’re exploring this jungle and trying to conquer the game; it’s life or death,” Black said. “But while we’re there, we find clues left behind by [Williams’ character Alan Parrish]. He built up a full-blown jungle house, similar to a Swiss Family Robinson situation. It’s like he’s there helping us without actually being there.”Although Williams’ personality is inimitable, this feels like a good way to incorporate his and his character’s importance to the story of the movie. While the original film was more about the jungle world leaking out into the real world, this time, much more of the movie takes place among the wild nature.

“You never got to see the inside world [in the original], but this one takes place primarily inside the jungle of Jumanji,” Black said. “That’s the coolest part of the film: we’re able to transport the audience to that secret and wondrous land, with the danger and the beauty.”
