Funko makes toys for everything, but no, really, everything. They’re even turning to Pixar shorts with an upcoming release from Bao, the short airing before Incredibles 2. The precious vinyl figure depicting the dumpling star of the short (which, by the way, is the first Pixar short to be directed by woman, Domee Shii) looks delicious enough to eat. The story’s a folktale, in which a dumpling comes to life and soothes the sadness of a woman suffering from empty nest syndrome. This figure depicts the little guy right after he’s “born.” It’s sweet and though I know the toy isn’t huggable, I really want to squish him.
The toy is adorable, but the packaging takes it to the next level. If you’ve ever had bao, you know the design is reminiscent of the bamboo baskets dumplings are typically served in. If you don’t feel like taking this collectible out of the package, it will look lovely on your shelf–or displayed on your kitchen counter.
The Bao vinyl figure will be available “later this year” as a Funko shop exclusive.
Will you be thinking of this sweet little face the next time you eat dumplings? Because I will. And it’s not going to stop me from shoving them into my face.
