HARLEY QUINN is Getting Her Own Animated Series

Exactly 25 years ago, she made her worldwide debut on Batman: The Animated Series as the Joker’s girlfriend and sidekick, and since then, she has skyrocketed to the status of one of DC Comics’ most popular female characters, rivaled only by  Wonder Woman. We’re talking about Harley Quinn, and according to Deadline, she will soon be the star of her very own animated TV series.

The series will air as a part of Warner Bros’ upcoming DC Comics-branded direct-to-consumer digital platform, which has ordered 26 episodes for a half-hour animated action-comedy series simply titled Harley Quinn. The image above is a piece of development art for the series, which leads us to expect a Harley look in line with her current comic book incarnation.

In this new series, Harley Quinn will have finally broken things off for good with her abusive boyfriend the Joker, and will attempt to make it on her own as the criminal Queenpin of Gotham City. Joining Harley will be her BFF Poison Ivy, as well as a whole cast of DC Universe heroes and villains both old and new. Although this has not been confirmed either way, I would expect Batman to show up on at least a semi-regular basis.

The new Harley Quinn animated series will be joining the live-action Titans series, as well as a revival of the animated Young Justice series, for the new DC streaming network. Hopefully, there are other new shows that will be part of the new service that have yet to be announced as well. How about a revival of Justice League Unlimited while we’re at it?

A voice actress has yet to be chosen for the role, but it is said that Warner Bros. is pursuing actress Margot Robbie for the part. Her portrayal of Harley in last year’s Suicide Squad movie was easily the best part of that film, and she’s due for a spin-off or two based on her character.

Although no date has been given for the debut of this new series, the DC streaming network is set to debut in 2018.
