Flight of the Conchords Share Hilarious New Song ‘Father and Son’

Flight of the Conchords‘ recent HBO live reunion concert special was a treat for fans of the charming, offbeat musical duo. They’ve been longing for more since the Flight of the Conchords TV series ended in 2009. And now, we can finally listen to new music from that concert special. “Father and Son,” a hilarious track that starts as a heartfelt ode from a dad to his young son following the death of his mother (except, maybe she’s not as dead as dad is implying) is now available for your listening pleasure. As with many Flight of the Conchords songs, the lyrics will make you run through a gauntlet of emotions before it ends in laughs–even if those laughs are caused by feeling uncomfortable.

New Zealand’s self-described “fourth best comedic folk music act” Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement returned to HBO for the special in October. They filmed the performance during the”Flight of the Conchords Sing Flight of the Conchords Tour†at the Eventim Apollo in London. They, of course, played classic fan favorites such as “The Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room)” and “Inner City Pressure.” And they sprinkled new tunes into their setlist, including “Father and Son” and “Deana and Ian.”For everyone hoping this recent special means more Flight of the Conchords is on the way, you can keep the spark alive. It’s possible we’ll still get the long-rumored Flight of the Conchords movie. If not that, we’ll keep our fingers crossed for another new tour and/or special.
