BEVERLY HILLS 90210 May Get an Original Cast Reboot

If there was any doubt the ’90s are fully back, then this bit of news has confirmed it. According to Deadline, producers are shopping another reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210, one of that decade’s most iconic shows. But unlike the previous reboot, this version would reunite much of the original cast and focus on them, including Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, and Gabrielle Carteris.Noticeably off that list however are two of the show’s most iconic cast members: Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry, the latter currently playing Archie Andrews’ dad on Riverdale. The new series is being pitched to broadcast and streaming networks, but doesn’t yet have a home. This would actually be the second reboot of the series, which went off the air after ten seasons in 2000. It returned to the CW in 2008, and lasted a respectable five seasons, but was never the cultural touchstone that the original series was back in the ’90s. The first season of the rebooted 90210 featured a few guest appearances from members of the original cast, including Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, and even Shannen Doherty, who never returned to the original series once she left after season four. But after season one of the reboot, the original cast members never appeared again, and were rarely mentioned. Here’s hoping if this series gets picked up, we get a follow-up to Melrose Place reboot doing the same thing, with the original cast members. A Melrose reboot also happened in 2009-2010 after the initial success of 90210’s return, just as the original Melrose spun out of the first 90210. I say pull a Halloween 2018 and say that reboot just didn’t happen and just start over.
