Ever since Macaulay Culkin was announced as joining the cast of Fallout season two, fans eagerly theorized about who his character would be on the second season of the show. In the trailers for Fallout season two, we came to understand that Macaulay Culkin would play a character who was part of Caesar’s Legion, a particularly brutal faction that hails from the world of Fallout: New Vegas. Would Macaulay Culkin play THE Caesar from the Fallout games, Edward Sallow? A new Caesar created for Fallout season two? Or some secret third thing? The answer it turns out, is some secret third thing. So, who is Macaulay Culkin’s character on Fallout season two? Meet Lacerate Legate, a loyalist of A Caesar’s Legion and most likely the faction’s second-in-command.
Who Is Lacerate Legate, Macaulay Culkin’s Character in Fallout Season 2, Episode 3? A True Example of Caesar’s Legion
Is “an unpleasant man” answer enought? No? Well, here’s what we learn about Macaulay Culkin’s character Lacerate Legate in Fallout season two, episode three, his first appearance.
The very first thing we see Macaulay Culkin’s character do on Fallout season two is murder the woman whom Lucy saved without so much as giving her a moment to explain what happened to her. We’re afraid it doesn’t get much better after that. Macaulay Culkin’s Lacerate Legate, whose name we get from the credits, but isn’t actually spoken in Fallout season two, largely exists to be a die-hard Caesar’s Legion apologist and a Caeser (or Kaiser) butt-kisser. He’s also probably second-in-command of his half of Caesar’s Legion on Fallout season two, but we’ll get to that below.

On Fallout, Culkin’s character paints the picture of Caesar’s Legion for anyone who doesn’t know them from Fallout: New Vegas. Casually, he tells Lucy they’re arranging her primae noctis, which we all know is gross. And then gleefully ties Lucy up, ignoring her offers to help his people with their current situation. (There’s a question of who the original Caeser, Edward Sallow, wanted to succeed him, and two factions have formed, each insisting they are the rightful one.) “Good is not a meaningful vector in history, only strength.” Lacerate Legate tells Lucy, summing up this character and Caesar’s Legion in one succinct statement.
All in all, the answer to “Who is Macaulay Culkin’s character on Fallout season two?” Turns out to be, a character we really want to punch in the face. And honestly, that’s the perfect represenation of Caesar’s Legion in the Fallout series.
Is Macaulay Culkin’s Character From Fallout: New Vegas or Any Other Fallout Game in Fallout Season 2?
No, Macaulay Culkin does not play a character from Fallout: New Vegas or any of the other Fallout games. Macaulay Culkin’s Lacerate Legate is an original character created for Fallout season two.
The Term “Legate” Does Come From Fallout: New Vegas—Here’s What It Means

That said, “Legate” is a term that comes from Fallout: New Vegas. In fact, we’ve met another couple “Legate” characters before in Fallout‘s games. And these figures were both the second-in-command of Casear’s Legion, serving under the original Casear, Edward Sallow. The first is Malpais Legate, who was a co-founder of Casear’s Legion, and also a man who committed many an atrocity. But eventually, a loss in battle caused Sallow’s Casear to execute him in a horrendous way and he was replaced with another Legate.

This second Legate is Fallout‘s Legate Lanius. Legate Lanius served as the second-in-command to the original Casear’s Legion Casear, Edward Sallow, after he got rid of Malpais Legate. Legate Lanius became known as The Monster and the Terror of the East in Fallout: New Vegas, so we know he was also not a very nice man. In one Fallout: New Vegas ending, if the player does not cure the original Casear, Edward Sallow, of his brain tumor than Legate Lanius takes over. Macaulay Culkin’s Legion character in Fallout season two certainly shares these traits in common with the Legates he takes after.

Additionally, both New Vegas‘ Legate Lanius and Culkin’s Fallout season two character Lacerate Legate wear the same sort of bearded full face mask with bull horns, denoting them to be of the same rank and importance. Giving Culkin a similar face mask as his apparent predecessor is a fun Fallout: New Vegas Easter egg on season two, a great visual shorthand to establish his character.
But what does “Legate” actually mean in Fallout‘s world? Well, it’s a position above the rank of Centurion, a general, as it were. Caesar directly appointed all his legate or legatus, and the role could not be earned. It appears from Fallout: New Vegas and other parts of the franchise that the Legate are the Caesar’s second-in-command. Thus it stands to reason that Macaulay Culkin’s character Lacerate Legate is the second-in-command to whoever his Caesar is who now rules… half… the Legion on Fallout season two.
Will Macaulay Culkin’s Caeser’s Legion Character Return in Future Episodes of Fallout Season 2?

It’s entirely possible that Macaulay Culkin’s character could return in future episodes of Fallout season two. We don’t think we’ve seen him bleeding as he does in the shot from Fallout season two’s trailer yet. But even if not, Macaulay Culkin’s Lacerate Legate feels like he’s really fulfilled his role well in Fallout season two, episode three. Macaulay Culkin’s character truly helped us to understand Caesar’s Legion and how it exists 15 years after Fallout: New Vegas.
New episodes of Fallout season two drop Wednesdays on Prime Video.
