Sinners is up for a record-crushing 16 awards this year, making it the most Oscar-nominated film of all time. It’s no surprise why. With impeccable cinematography, outstanding direction, and a remarkable cast, Sinners is truly a masterpiece—arguably one of the best films of the year. It also marks Michael B. Bugonia is one of those films that’s a little bit weird, slightly confusing, yet intensely mesmerizing. As is the trend with anything by Yorgos Lanthimos. Between the brilliant casting of Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, Bugonia lives up to everything it promises. One Battle After Another – Stream on HBO Max

If you still haven’t had the chance to go see One Battle After Another, now is the time. It has a lot going on in the best way. Big sequences, astounding performances, Leonardo DiCaprio being stoned out of his mind for two and a half hours. It’s equal parts comedy and high-stakes drama. Frankenstein – Stream on Netflix

Inspired by the genre-defining novel by Mary Shelley comes Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. An incredibly beautiful film, Frankenstein explores the beauty and fragility of human creation, as well as the dangers of playing God. The gothic masterpiece is up for nine awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi’s captivating performance as The Creature. Frankenstein is available to watch on Netflix.

Marty Supreme – Buy or Rent on Digital Platforms (Or See It In Theaters)

Two Timothee Chalamet projects made the cut at last year’s Oscars. Timmy Tim is back again this year—this time for a ping pong movie that’s… not really about ping pong at all. The Josh Safdie flick clinched nine nominations, including for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. The movie centers around young table tennis prodigy Marty Mauser (Chalamet). It’s a pretty intense ride. Head over to theaters to catch Marty Supreme before March. You can also rent or buy it on select digital platforms.

Weapons – Stream on HBO Max

It’s been some time since we’ve gotten a truly fantastic horror film, and Weapons is near-perfect. This past Halloween ran wild with Gladys around every corner. Amy Madigan is finally receiving her due credit, awarded with a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The film is both unsettling and cleverly humorous. You just have to watch it for the full experience. All you need is a subscription to HBO Max.

Hamnet Watch in Theaters

Stemming from the tragic true story that inspired William Shakespeare’s Hamlet comes Hamnet. Under the brilliant wing of Chloe Zhang, Hamnet is wonderfully adapted and insightfully moving. The film is competing for eight awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Jessie Buckley’s unbelievable performance as Agnes. F1: The Movie – Stream on Apple TV

F1: The Movie is among the blockbuster lineup of movies we got this summer. Capturing the high-speed intensity of the sport, F1 is visually exciting and highly entertaining to say the least. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris are the duo we needed. F1 snatched a total of four Oscar noms. It does feel a little out of place housed in the category for Best Picture, but we’re here for it. Avatar: Fire and Ash – Watch in Theaters

Few measure up to the visual spectacle that is Avatar. Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third installment of James Cameron’s popular franchise, expanding deeper into the world of Pandora. It claims two nominations, squaring off against Jurassic World Rebirth for Best Visual Effects. The film is not available to rent or buy just yet, but you can still kick it with the Neytiri in theaters.

KPop Demon Hunters – Stream on Netflix

KPop Demon Hunters is the animated hit that took the world by storm. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you have most definitely heard the reason it became a viral sensation in the first place. The Netflix original is up for two Oscars: Best Original Song for “Golden” and Best Animated Feature Film. It also bears the impressive title of the most viewed movie on Netflix ever.
