There are roughly :checks notes: 400 million TV shows and films we are looking forward to in 2019Opens in a new tab, so we don’t say this lightly: it would be impossible for us to be any more excited for FX’s What We Do in the ShadowsOpens in a new tab series. The 2014 comedy–written, directed, and starring Taika Waititi and Flight of the Conchords’ Jemaine Clement–about real vampires living in the modern world might be an even better premise for a sitcom. Plus Waititi and Clement have returned to write for the show, with Waititi directing some episodes. So yeah, we’re pretty hyped. If this all sounds like we’re possibly over-selling just how good the series could be, we’d argue we’re under-selling it, especially after seeing the latest teaser FX has fired up for it.This new promo opens with a sinister image, the kind we’d expect from a traditional vampire tale. Of course, What We Do in the Shadows is not your normal monster story.
