It appears one vampire coven’s time in Staten Island is coming to an end. Sadly, we’ve learned that next year’s sixth season of the undead comedy series What We Do in the Shadows will be its last. At the end of season four, FX renewed the series for a further two seasons, to the joy of many of the show’s most hardcore fans. But after 2024, it will be time to say farewell to Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and their human familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén). And now, we know when What We Do in the Shadows season six, a.k.a. its final season, will release for our viewing pleasure.
When Will What We Do in the Shadows Season Six Premiere?
FX shares that the final season of What We Do in the Shadows will premiere on Monday, October 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX. What We Do in the Shadows season six will release its first three episodes on its premiere date. Season six of the show will have 11 episodes in total. Additionally, “All episodes will stream the next day on Hulu, where fans can also stream all five previous seasons. Internationally, the series’ previous seasons are available to stream on Disney+, with season 6 coming soon.”
What We Do in the Shadows Season Six Synopsis
Here’s what we know about the final season of What We Do in the Shadows so far. A release offers our first synopsis of the season. It notes:
After a very brief stint as a full-blown vampire, Guillermo is re-evaluating his life. Who is he if not a familiar who will do anything to please his Master in hopes of one day being turned into a vampire? Meanwhile, the vampires are reevaluating, too. When their former roommate reappears after a 50-year nap, they realize how little they’ve done in half a century — not one goal accomplished, not one dream pursued, not one part of the New World conquered (except for their street and part of Ashley Street).
In the sixth and final season of the Emmy-nominated comedy, Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, Colin and Guillermo will enter the workforce, visit New Hampshire, go to a human dinner party, fête The Baron and conjure a demon — all while trying to find their place and their purpose in this crazy, mixed-up world.
More About What We Do in the Shadows‘ Final Season
A spin-off of Taika Waititi’s 2014 film of the same name, the show grew beyond its predecessor into a legit cult phenomenon of its own. It earned some 21 Emmy Nominations, winning for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes in 2022. However, none so far for its incredible and hilarious cast, who deserve all the accolades. So why end now? Showrunner Paul Simms said the biggest question the series needed to answer before the finale was what would happen with Guillermo. However, Guillermo got his wish to become a vampire in season five only to change his mind becoming human again. It seems that completes his arc.
What We Do in the Shadows is one of the best vampire series ever on TV, not to mention one of the best comedies ever made for TV. So we are very sad to see it go. However, we can’t deny six seasons is a good run. Most other great vampire shows like Buffy and True Blood only saw diminishing returns after their fifth or sixth seasons. So maybe now is a good time to bow out for our immortal friends. But if there is any show that is deserving of the “six seasons and a movie” push, we think it’s What We Do in the Shadows. Let’s raise a glass of AB Negative to our undead friends.
