What Are Fallout‘s Securitron Robots?

RobCo’s Securitrons are large, effective, armored artificial intelligence robots in Fallout‘s world. They feature a top-heavy, broad design, have two giant arms, and a screen that lets them convey emotions and thoughts. Despite their size and weight, they can move quickly on one wheel, making them a formidable (though not invulnerable) force.

Fans first met Securitrons in Fallout: New Vegas, set in 2281, 15 years prior to Prime Video’s Fallout series. These security robots patrolled Sin City and the surrounding areas in the Mojave Desert as a private army for their creator, Robert House. Some of his Securitrons also have distinct personalities, like the one robot Mr. House gave more autonomy to than most of his fellow model 2060-B brethren in Fallout: New Vegas—Victor. And that important video game character is the very same Victor whom the Ghoul just ran into on the Fallout TV series.

Who is Victor the Securitron in Fallout: New Vegas?

Robert House could not control his Securitrons outside of New Vegas. He still wanted/needed to keep an eye on the area surrounding his city, though. So Mr. House gave one Securitron model named Victor extra autonomy to do that for him in Fallout: New Vegas. Mr. House also gave Victor a friendly cowboy personality. It allowed the Securitron to exude a a warm, folksy demeanor while carrying out his mad genius creator’s commands.

In the world of Fallout‘s games, Victor the Securitron’s greater independence allowed him to patrol and carry out House’s wishes in the nearby town of Goodsprings, where Victor had lived in a shack since at least 2266. (Though he is likely much, much older.) By the time of the video game, we learn the NCR supported the independent town of Goodsprings.

In Fallout: New Vegas, Victor the Securitron is an important figure, as he is tasked with helping Mr. House find the lost Platinum Chip that was supposed to upgrade New Vegas’ OS before the bombs dropped. Victor accompanies the player, aka the Courier, and can jump from Securitron to Securitron if one robot is destroyed.

Clearly, no matter what happened at the end of Fallout: New Vegas, that old metal cowpoke endured. Even if the NCR mostly didn’t.

What Did We Learn from Victor the Securitron’s Introduction in Fallout Season 2?

The Ghoul went looking for the NCR, an old ally, to help save Lucy from Caesar’s Legion. What he found when he went to one of its outposts was a mostly abandoned site. As this episode made clear, the New California Republic barely exists anymore, at least in the Mojave. The only sign of life the Ghoul found there was the artificial kind.

Victor the Securitron awoke to see a familiar face in Fallout season two, episode three; it turns out he and the former Cooper Howard both knew one another in the past. The Ghoul asked why Victor was there, but the Securitron couldn’t remember. Convenient or telling? Victor genuinely didn’t seem to know, as it said “somebody did a number” on his numbers. He’d spent the last 10 years thinking he was a sodie machine. He wasn’t even sure why he was at an NCR location.

He claimed not to know much about his creator’s fate. Only Victor the Securitron’s answers said a lot more about Robert House than Victor intended.

Did Victor Confirm Robert House Is Dead on Fallout?

The Ghoul asked Victor what happened to his creator. The Securitron’s answer on Fallout season two seemed to indicate Robert House is dead, since the robot bemoaned that House’s ultimate goal was to “live forever.” But Victor never actually said House died. Instead, he said he is “gone,” which supports the theory that House is still alive in the present on Fallout season two. Could Victor have meant Mr. House is no longer in New Vegas, which Hank MacLean also implied in the season premiere?

If House is somewhere else, it might be because he’s trying to find something that has eluded him for more than 200 years. Whatever Victor the Securitron says, The Ghoul believes Mr. House is alive in Fallout season two’s world because he had a “knack for planning ahead.” But those plans apparently included getting his hands on cold fusion, which the Brotherhood of Steel currently has. And the reason Mr. House never got access to unlimited energy and power is because of something the Ghoul did. Victor said to him, “Didn’t you have something to do with all that?”

Oh yeah.

How did Cooper Howard stop Robert House from getting cold fusion in Fallout? Why exactly did the ruler of New Vegas want it to begin with? What happened to the NCR since the end of Fallout: New Vegas? Why is Victor the Securitron still out there, in an abandoned town, keeping an eye out for his missing master? In just one scene, that Securitron made a big impact. What will Victor do if/when Mr. House returns? We don’t yet know. We just know it’ll be done with a friendly drawl, y’all.

Fallout season two releases on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
