It’s Jordan Peele’s world and we’re all just living in it…with our hands over our eyes. Not content with having yet another hit movie in theaters, the Us director’s new reboot of the classic television series The Twilight Zone comes to CBS All Access today, April 1, with the first four episodes in the series. But if you’re still on the fence about whether to invest in the newest iteration of the show, or about signing up for yet another streaming service (or both), CBS is letting you get a free sneak peak at the show. They have posted the entire first episode, “The Comedian,” on YouTube. It stars Kumail Nanjiani as comedian Samir Wassan, who wants to be famous. The only question is, what price is he willing to pay to get it? But unlike the half-hour, commercial-filled episodes most fans remember, this premiere is almost an hour long.
Without spoiling anything, this debut feels like the classic The Twilight Zone. Everything is slightly off right from the beginning, but in a way you can’t fully explain. (You can read more about how the show is both alike and different, including the way it captures the ethos of Rod Serling’s original, with our own Kyle Anderson’s review of the first four episodes.)Whether this wallet-friendly premiere is enough to get you to pony up for another streaming service is up to you, but it has us wanting to see more of the show. Of course, that’s how they get you, isn’t it? They give you just enough for free to suck you in, then before you know it, you’re lost, once more, in another dimension of sight and sound and streaming, here in….The Twilight Zone.
