Benoit Blanc is taking his latest murder mystery to the big screen. Variety reports that Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will head to theaters for a two week stint. The film will hit select theaters on November 26 and run for two weeks. After that, it will make its debut on the streaming service on December 12.
The highly anticipated sequel boasts an all-star cast, including Daniel Craig returning as Blanc, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack and Thomas Haden Church. Check out the lengthy synopsis for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery below:
“Benoit Blanc (Craig) returns for his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery opus. When young priest Jud Duplenticy (O’Connor) is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Brolin), it’s clear that all is not well in the pews. Wicks’s modest-but-devoted flock includes devout church lady Martha Delacroix (Close), circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt (Haden Church), tightly-wound lawyer Vera Draven (Washington), aspiring politician Cy Draven (McCormack), town doctor Nat Sharp (Renner), best-selling author Lee Ross (Scott), and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Spaeny). After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Kunis) to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic.”
While Netflix’s CEO famously said that the movie theater model was “outdated,” the film’s director, writer, and co-producer Rian Johnson (you may have heard of him) certainly believes otherwise. “We’re going to push for everything we can get in terms of theatrical, because I want as many people as possible to see it in that form,” Johnson said.
This hybrid theater release followed by a streaming release is perfect, actually. Those who wish to experience this new mystery on the biggest screen possible can do so while others can watch it comfortably at home. Everyone wins!
