The trailer for Violent Night 2 gave CinemaCon fans a jolt during Universal Pictures special presentation. In it, Santa (David Harbour) does a very quick recap of all the violence and gore of the first film. Then he takes a look at his list, which has him as naughty because he forgot the meaning of Christmas, apparently. Santa gets knocked out and ends up in the back of a truck and at a mall where he complains about trying to save Christmas.
He’s lost his magic and is traversing the mall wearing a regular sweater, even admitting to kids that he killed too many people and got on the naughty list. He becomes a mall Santa, but there’s a hit out on his head. The violence ramps up, including Santa using a gingerbread cookie cutter to take a chunk out of a man’s head. Yikes. It’s nice to see all this happen as a version of Wham’s “Last Christmas” plays.
But what really thrilled us was seeing Kristen Bell appear as a very pretty and badass version of Mrs. Claus. Violent Night 2 hits theaters on December 4, and the trailer has us ready for the most wonderful time of the year.
