VENTURE BROS, AQUA TEEN, and METALOCALYPSE Movies Are Coming

Adult Swim is going old school with some new movies. The network has announced that it’s producing original films for three of its most beloved animated series: The Venture Bros., Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Metalocalypse.

Some of the most popular animated shows in Adult Swim history are returning with all new movies. The network has said it will produce films based on three of its oldest shows. And fans will have multiple ways to watch them. Each will initially comes to store shelves on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as digital transactional video on demand (TVOD), and electronic sell through (EST). Each platform will get a 90-day exclusive window. The movies will then premiere on both Adult Swim and HBO Max.

“Leveraging the power of WarnerMedia allows us to deliver original content to our amazingly dedicated and not-shy fans, while also giving our talented series creators an opportunity to tell stories in new and interesting ways,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, in a statement.

We doubt the most dedicated viewers will wait to watch them. Each show boasts a very loyal fanbase. And getting new stories for all of them is a huge, unexpected boon. But even if some want to wait, we doubt they will after reading the official synopses for The Venture Bros. and Metalocalypse.

The Venture Bros.
Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt the Ventures or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them. The Venture Bros. is created, written and executive produced by Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer.
Metalocalypse
The power-hungry TRIBUNAL unveils their secret and deadly “Falconback Project” as the world grows in embattled chaos and the menacing Doomstar breaches the Earth’s atmosphere while the mysterious and twisted dissent of a band member threatens the future of Dethklok. Picking up directly after the heroic rescue of Toki Wartooth: Can Dethklok choose between their egos and the greater good of the world to embark on a gauntlet of dangers that will try their very souls and finally write the song that will be their salvation?

Co-creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha will return for the latter film. Its soundtrack will also get a release from WaterTower Music.

As for the next Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie (the show got a feature film in 2007, the network’s first), Adult Swim only says it will be “a continuation of the hit animated series.” Fans “will find out what happens next with Frylock, Meatwad and Master Shake.”

That’s more than enough for us. These shows might be old. But they still feel as fresh as anything on TV right now.
