In a very surprising turn of events, one of the biggest action stars on the planet made an appearance at CinemaCon 2026. Cruise and director Alejandro Iñárritu chatted with Warner Bros. “The Big Picture” presentation host Patton Oswald about their upcoming film Digger, which release an intriguing trailer a while back. They started talking about Digger and Cruise’s titular role seven years ago, and now they are almost at the film’s debut on October 2.
Iñárritu said working with Cruise was incredibly exciting, a sentiment that Cruise also had for him. Cruise said it took 40 years for him to put on the boots of Digger Rockwell and calls the movie wild and funny. And, to delight the audience, footage from Digger graced the screen. We see Tom Cruise in an unrecognizable form, trying to feed his cat who is apparently dying (or so we think). He does a monologue about his former home runs and lives in a wild castle.

He gets a message from an environmental guy and keeps interrupting him as the tells him that he won’t shut down a platform that he’s deeply invested in that has dangerous leaks. John Goodman portrays the president and reveals that this place could displace millions of people. He says that Digger will have to get them out of the mess. Everything about this comedy is quite chaotic and bizarre in the best way. Everyone is old and insane, and we love that.
