THE LAST OF US to Recast Danny Ramirez’s Manny in Season 3

Say it ain’t so! Even though Danny Ramirez didn’t play a huge role as Manny in The Last of Us season two, we loved seeing the actor on our screens anyway. 2025 was a big year for Danny Ramirez, as he took on the mantel of The Falcon in the MCU’s Captain America: Brave New World and appeared as Manny on the highly-anticipated second season of The Last of Us, acting as a WLF member and one of main character Abby’s personal team. But it seems Danny Ramirez has hit the point of being too popular and in too many franchises. A report from Variety reveals that The Last of Us season three will recast Danny Ramirez’s Manny with a new actor, though we don’t yet know who. Speculation abounds that this is because Danny Ramirez will be in Avengers: Secret Wars, and his schedule for filming the MCU movie conflicts with the filming of The Last of Us season three.

After all, we know that Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres/Falcon will appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. (Which is teasing a major star-filled cast.) And so it would probably follow that he might appear in Avengers: Secret Wars as well. And given the long filming schedules for an Avengers movie and a TV series like The Last of Us, we can see how the pair might not be able to work on the same timeline. Of course, this is all speculation. HBO has not confirmed whether Danny Ramirez has been recast in The Last of Us season 3 or a new actor for the role of Manny. Furthermore, Avengers: Secret War has not confirmed that Falcon will appear.

Manny’s role on The Last of Us was initially described as “a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most.” And Danny Ramirez played that perfectly. We’ll have to see who will fill those sunshine shoes next.

We don’t yet know when The Last of Us season three will release. Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026.
