Matt Reeves introduced the world to Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader in 2022’s The Batman. The film showed the iconic superhero at the start of his career, with a story about how Bruce Wayne learned exactly what kind of symbol he wanted to be for Gotham. By the time we see him Pattinson’s Dark Knight next he might be ready for early retirement. We’re going to have to wait even longer for the long-awaited sequel. Warner Bros. has pushed the film’s release back yet again, this time to early 2028. But this latest The Batman Part II news isn’t all bad, man. Reeves made the announcement with the film’s first camera test footage, and it is anything but disappointing.
The Batman Part II, part of DC’s Elseworlds batch of DCU-independent releases, was originally supposed to arrive in theaters in 2026. It was then pushed back to 2027. Now Reeves has revealed that it won’t actually debut until February 18, 2028. That will be nearly six years after the original film, which almost seems impossible. What does Reeves think he’s making? A prestige TV show?
Fortunately we had exactly that to keep us entertained during this long wait between movies. The Penguin spinoff series let us return to Gotham to see what happened after the Riddler flooded Gotham. And The Batman Part II will pickup after the series ended.

When we get to that point we can apparently expect plenty of rain and flashing police lights. That’s what we see in this first camera test, which features Pattinson as Batman slowly turning to look at the audience in the middle of a rainstorm at what feels like a crime scene.
Is that what we’re seeing? We’ll find out in 19 months. Maybe. This clip might look great, but this point we can’t trust any release date for this movie.
