Texas’ New Attorney General Scored 67 Episodes of DRAGON BALL Z

The United States of America has just had a truly historic midterm election. But did you know that one of Texas’ newly elected officials has a rather lengthy history with super Saiyans? Yes, you read that correctly. We said super Saiyans. Via a report in Variety, we learned that Nathan Johnson, the newly elected Attorney General of Texas, was once a composer who scored over sixty episodes of the iconic ’90s anime series Dragon Ball Z back in the day. Johnson actually revealed this interesting factoid about his career via his Facebook page.

Here is what he had to say about his extensive Dragon Ball Z career:

I wrote the musical scores, wall to wall, of 67 episodes of Dragon Ball Z and five of the movies. I had a one-year-old at the time, and I remember him sitting on my knee and stuff blowing up. He’s like, ‘Oh, Daddy Goku!’ He thought it was super cool. It gave me a creative outlet and a cultural connection that very few people have had the opportunity to have.

Nerdist’s Take: To Succeed in Politics, Nathan Johnson May Need to Summon Goku Strength

In his composing career, Johnson scored Dragon Ball Z: The World’s Strongest, Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Dragon Ball Z: Broly — Second Coming, Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, and Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon. So yeah, that’s a whole lot of Dragon Ball. Once upon a time, once people entered the political arena, they tended to downplay their connections to the entertainment industry. Especially if the projects didn’t qualify as “high art.” But we think those days are now long behind us. Everyone embraces their nerdy resume now. However, we think Johnson may need to call on some Goku strength to get things done. Politics is harder than fighting Frieza.
