Next year, Disney will launch its streaming service with classic films and TV shows alongside a selection of original movies and series. The upcoming live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp will be among the most prominent of the new projects, and now this film has found its Lady. According to Collider, Thor: Ragnarok and Westworld star Tessa Thompson is in talks to lend her voice to Lady and the Tramp as the titular Lady, a Cocker Spaniel who lives comfortably with her family until their first child is born. The 1955 animated classic was based upon Ward Greene’s Happy Dan, The Cynical Dog, and it followed Lady as she fell into an unexpected romance with a dog called Tramp. Lady, Tramp, and the rest of the animal kingdom performers will be CGI creations, but we still fully expect to see the following iconic moment recreated in the movie.
Justin Theroux will be voicing Tramp, with Kiersey Clemons as Darling and Ashley Jensen as the voice of Jackie, a Scottish Terrier. Additionally, Collider is also reporting that Doctor Strange and Deadly Class star Benedict Wong will portray Bull, an English bulldog.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie director Charlie Bean will helm the Lady and the Tramp remake, while Andrew Bujalski is writing the script. Disney hasn’t set a release date for the film or even a date for the streaming service to go live. However, a late 2019 debut may be the most likely time frame.
