SUPERMAN Behind-the-Scenes Video Discuss the Character’s Hope

It’s barely a month into spring and I’m already longing for summer. While spring movies like Thunderbolts*Opens in a new tab and Mission: Impossible – The Final ReckoningOpens in a new tab are exciting, my cinematic sights are firming planted on July 11. That’s the day when James Gunn’s SupermanOpens in a new tab will debut and with it the hope of a brand new era of enjoyable DC movies. Hope is indeed the right word for anything to do with the Man of Tomorrow himself. After all, he’s a beacon of the good possible in the world. And also, you know, wearing your trunks on the outside of your pants.

In the below behind-the-scenes video from Superman, Gunn, Peter Safran, and the rest of the main cast all discuss filming the movie, the responsibility they feel, and indeed the hope the character brings.

This little featurette manages to get us more excited for the movie, and proffer some words on Superman as a symbol of aspiration. Additionally, it gives us some great looks at some characters we hadn’t seen much of. Frank Grillo plays Rick Flag Sr, as he did indeed in Creature Commandos. Not surprisingly, he looks not dissimilar to his Brock Rumlow mercenary look from the MCU. But way more exciting are brief glances at Isabela Merced in her full Hawkgirl regalia and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho.

While the featurette doesn’t show much more of new footage that wasn’t in the first teaserOpens in a new tab and extended sceneOpens in a new tab, watching the making of a film of this size is kinda thrilling. Harkens back to my youth watching the making of Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Those DVD features were better than the movie, and that’s not a dig at the movie.

I still don’t love the Superman suit in this, but that’s legitimately the only misgiving I have based on everything else I’ve seen. As Rachel Brosnahan says, in James Gunn we trust. Come on, Summer!

Superman will hit theaters and IMAX screens July 11, 2025.
