Only a week after its long awaited release date, Stray has gotten a mod. Instead of a lanky ginger kitty making its way through a post-apocalyptic world you can now play as a well-known chubby ginger kitty. The cartoon eyes and expression are unmistakably those of Garfield the cat. The illusion is so similar to the movies, you almost expect Bill Murray’s voice lazily saying “Meow” instead of the video game’s usual cat noises. But sadly that’s not part of the mod (yet). And no word on whether there’s any lasagna involved.
We learned about the mod from IGN and found great videos like the one above of the new Stray gameplay. The PC and PlayStation game already looked beautiful and interesting, but we have to say it seems a little bit more fun with this creative update. The mod “Garfield – Cartoon Edition” is available from Chris Rubino. He also shares tutorials on making character mods to popular video games on his YouTube channel.
Stray is already the number one game on Steam, with a 97% positive rating. The video game was wildly popular long even before its release. Every trailer and clip was greeted with excitement. Apparently people really want to be a cat. Even if it is living in a post-apocalyptic world, exploring and napping our way through life seems like a lovely alternative to reality.
The modded gameplay still includes missions and the ability to interact with the environment. And knock over things, of course. There’s other cats and robot friends to make. Adding Jon, Odie, Nermal, and the rest of the gang would be a fun addition.
Either way you play Stray, going through life as a ginger cat seems like a pretty good deal.
