Stephen Colbert’s ‘Questionert’ Makes Us Love Keanu Reeves More

Every day, late night hosts interview some of the most famous people in the world. But just because you spend a few minutes in conversation with a person doesn’t mean you truly know them. Everyone would love to really know Keanu Reeves though. So when the John Wick star stopped by The Late Show recently for an interview, Stephen Colbert wanted to make sure he got deep into Keanu Reeves soul by asking him a long series of questions. Now CBS has shared the entire delightful interview. Whether or not Colbert truly knows what makes Reeves tick now is up for debate. But what’s not is how entertaining the whole exchange was. Nor how much we love Keanu Reeves.

The Matrix Resurrectionsstar got put to the test during “The Colbert Questionert.” The Late Show‘s lab came up with a series of queries intended to really understand what Keanu Reeves is all about. In a segment that worked so well because Reeves is incapable of being anything but earnest.

The questions included mundane issues, like “Cats or dogs?” (Dogs, but he’s coming around on cats too.) And “What’s your favorite sandwich?” (Toast with crunchy peanut butter and honey.) As well as ones that led to impossibly cool answers, like, “Did you ever ask for someone’s autograph.” (Lou Reed and George Carlin.)

Reeves also gave answers that show why he has a near perfect approval rating. His favorite action movie is 1975’s Rollerball starring James Caan. An absolutely amazing movie everyone should watch. And if he could only listen to one song for the rest of his life he’d go with Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” An answer that can’t be topped, only matched.

But our favorite answer is the same that inspired the whole segment. In an interview a few years ago, Stephen Colbert asked Keanu what he thinks happens when we die. Reeves’ simple but poignant answer, the ones who loved us will miss us, needed no amending. Neither did this segment. Because even if we don’t truly know Keanu Reeves, we know enough about him to know we love him with good reason.
