As we all mourn the loss of Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew, on this Star Wars Day let us celebrate the one thing Chewie loved above all things in the galaxy: The Millennium Falcon. After all, everyone’s favorite wookiee was the co-pilot of the biggest hunk of junk in the galaxy for six feature films. Soon to be seven! And thanks to The Laughing Squid, we’ve discovered a way to bring your love of the Falcon to life…..and then scarf it down the way Jabba the Hutt ate all those frogs in Return of the Jedi.
The pie in the video above was created by a woman from Vancouver named Jessica Leigh Clark-Bojin, a baker at Pies Are Awesome. Anyone who has even a casual knowledge of Star Wars would recognize this incredibly detailed mince pie. Obviously! It’s the universally famous shape of The Millennium Falcon. This pie was originally baked for Star Wars UK back in January, but its baker has now gained permission to share this amazing pie with the rest of the world. And with May the 4th here, we can’t think of a better time to learn how to make your own version.
To create this space-worthy edible art, Leigh Clark-Bojin extended the regular metal pie pan by using forms she made out of a disposable pie tin. She then baked the whole thing on a cookie sheet. In her original post, there are few non-Star Wars ships that she mentions as ones she is considering baking into pies, like the starship Enterprise from Star Trek, and Serenity from Firefly. Of course, in keeping with the Star Wars theme, we wouldn’t mind seeing an Imperial Star Destroyer. Or maybe even a TIE Fighter or an X-Wing? Death Star pie anyone? We’re not sure of how that would even work, but we know we want to see it. And eat it.
