SPACEBALLS 2 Wraps Filming, Lewis Pullman Calls Experience ‘A Dream’

Everything must have a sequel or reboot these days. And next in line is Spaceballs. The hilarious space opera that parodies other beloved space-based franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Alien will now get a sequel. We have a strong feeling the wonder of Spaceballs will not be easily recreated by Spaceballs 2, but we guess Hollywood has to try. Spaceballs 2 will star Josh Gad, who will also produce the sequel movie alongside Mel Brooks, as well as Lewis Pullman, who is Bill Pullman’s son. Josh Greenbaum will direct while Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad serve as writers on the film. Spaceballs 2 is in development at Amazon MGM studios and set to arrive in 2027. Spaceballs 2 wrapped filming in December 2025, and Pullman said filming this movie was fantastic.

“It was a dream come true,” Lewis Pullman told People Magazine. “We just wrapped, and … every day was such a trip. It … felt like a bizarre simulation. I just couldn’t believe my luck.” He notes that he wanted to work with his father for a while but they weren’t sure it would ever happen. Thankfully, this film gave them that chance, which felt surreal for both the father and son.

Returning to the series is Mel Brooks, who will reprise his role as Yogurt. Bill Pullman reprises his role as the Han Solo-esque Lone Starr. Lewis Pullman will play a character named Starburst, the sun of Queen Vespa (Zuniga) and Lone Starr (Bill Pullman). Keke Palmer is also expected to join the cast as a lead, with THR noting, “Franchise newcomer Palmer will play a role by the name of Destiny.”

Little Shop of Horrors star Rick Moranis and Twisted Metal‘s Anthony Carrigan are also joining the Spaceballs 2 cast. The film is starting production and celebrated that milestone with a new cast table read image.

Will the galactic jokes land? We sure hope so… but in the meantime, we’ll just be watching the original Spaceballs movie, which you can stream now on HBO Max.
