New Space Force Uniforms Mimic STAR TREK and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

Despite feeling both ill-timed and premature, the USA government continues to proceed with their new addition to the military with the United States Space Force. They announced this sixth branch of the American military in 2019. A branch quickly mocked by the internet, and even a Netflix comedy series. And from the moment Space Force was officially a real thing, they seemed very inspired by famous pop-culture sci-fi franchises.

The Space Force emblem looked almost identical to the Starfleet logo from Star Trek. So much so, it’s shocking Paramount didn’t sue them. Members’ official name, “Guardians,” sure felt like someone was trying to appeal to the Guardians of the Galaxy fanbase. And now, we have uniforms. as revealed by the verified Space Force Twitter account. And they too look way familiar.

As noted by fans on social media as well as Syfy Wire, these prototype design uniforms feel a lot like the Star Trek movie’s Starfleet uniforms from the ’80s. The double-breasted jacket held together by clasps reminds us of what William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy wore on the big screen back in the day. But they also remind us of the Battlestar Galactica uniforms from the early 2000s reboot with their color palate. It’s basically a mashup of these two franchises.

Unfortunately, the Space Force comparisons are currently all just superficial. We don’t have important Federation Starfleet fixtures like transporters or warp drive. At least our smartphones are better than the old communicators were on the classic TV show. I guess we should be grateful that the Space Force uniforms don’t look like Imperial uniforms from Star Wars. Since someone basically designed those to look like Space Nazis. Thankfully, someone on the design team had the good sense to not go down that particular road.
