For the first time, Kevin Williamson is directing a Scream film. He’s the reason why the franchise exists as the writer of the very first movie as well as Scream 2 and Scream IV. Now it is time for him to deliver the next chapter of Sidney’s ongoing saga with Ghostface when Scream 7 hits theaters on February 27. With less than a month to go, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group released a Scream 7 featurette with Williamson, Neve Campbell, Isabel May, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown to talk about this next chapter.
One notable part of this featurette is that Sidney Prescott is now officially billed as Sidney Evans in Scream 7. It makes total sense considering she married Mark Evans (not Kincaid), whom we will meet in this film. But Sid always struck me as someone who would either keep her last name or hyphenate it. However, it is probably easier for Sid to live her life with her family in a new town without the infamy of her last name following her. It’s sad to see her drop her mom’s name but she’s healing and moving on.
Williamson spoke in the featurette, giving props to his mentor Wes Craven and saying that he’s blown away by where things are going next. The cast also showers him with love because he knows the franchise and these characters like the back of his hands. Let’s see what goes down when Scream 7 hits the big screen soon and brings Sidney Prescott, erm Evans, back.
