When comedy legends Marlon and Shawn Wayans announced that a new Scary Movie was going to be a thing, a lot of fans were cautiously optimistic. The duo helped to craft the spoof film franchise and starred in its first two movies. After that, the quality of the films made a continuous decline. The first two Scary Movie installments hold a special place in our hearts but they do have some humor that perhaps wouldn’t go over so well today. How would the Wayans manage to make this franchise funny again in a way that pushes boundaries yet still feels enjoyable to all? Well, the trailer for Scary Movie (it does seem to just have the title Scary Movie, which is yet another way to parody franchises) is here and it looks like they have the winning formula once again in 2026.
This clip made its debut in theaters first, rightfully running before Scream 7. That is the film that inspired Scary Movie, after all. And the Scream movies continue to influence this Scary Movie, with the trailer opening up to parody Scream VI. It’s the (very good) scene of Mindy Meeks-Martin on the subway with a bunch of people dressed up in scary costumes.
We see the killer from Heart Eyes, Leatherface, and even a lil dancing M3GAN. The latter takes off that mask to reveal that Ghostface is back, baby. And from there, we get jokes on top of jokes and parodies on top of parodies. From Weapons to Smile to Get Out, Scary Movie (2026) will poke fun at them all.
What Is the Release Date for Scary Movie?
It’s awesome to see the return of actors who made Scary Movie what it is, including Regina Hall and Anna Faris alongside Marlon and Shawn. They are indeed reprising their roles as Brenda, Cindy, Shorty, and Ray, respectively.
And we don’t have to wait long for their return. Scary Movie will hit theaters on June 12 and, if the trailer is any indication, it’s gonna have us hootin’ and hollerin’ the whole time.
