Scarlett Johansson May Join Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN – PART II

After what seems like years of delays, filming will commence soon on Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman – Part II. And now, we may also have our first new cast member joining Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. According to a report from Deadline, Scarlett Johansson will leave Marvel Studios behind for a role in a DC Studios production in the upcoming The Batman sequel. There’s no word yet on who she might be playing, although there’s no shortage of iconic female Gotham City characters that would be perfect for her to portray.

Johansson will first film Mike Flanagan’s new reboot of The Exorcist, before moving on to The Batman – Part II. Between her multiple MCU movies and Jurassic World: Rebirth, Scarlett Johansson is now one of the world’s most bankable movie stars. But the real question Batman fans have is “Who the heck is she playing?” The part of Catwoman/Selina Kyle is taken in this universe, thanks to Zoe Kravitz. The most obvious choice is that she’s going to play a version of eco-terrorist Pamela Isley, a.k.a. Poison Ivy. After playing an iconic red-headed Marvel hero in Black Widow, she may want to play an equally iconic red-haired villain.

Thus far, Matt Reeves’ version of Batman lore is far more grounded. So we wouldn’t expect his version of Ivy to control giant killer plants. Should he include her, we imagine in Reeves’ version, she’d be someone who uses plants to create deadly toxins. But she could also be playing reporter Vicki Vale, a classic Batman love interest. Maybe even a fellow vigilante, like the Huntress. She would also fit the boots of Batwoman, Kate Kane, quite nicely. Of course, it’s possible she’s playing a character who is entirely new to the franchise. We’ll have to wait and see. The Batman – Part II will release in theaters on October 1, 2027.
