Some actors are known to spoil their movies (I’m looking at you, Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo). However, Ryan Reynolds seems to be good at keeping it vague. Still, he did give hesitant confirmation that Deadpool will return in another movie during his panel at Fanatics Fest.
Reynolds was purposefully vague, saying that there are some “deep cuts” he thinks are missing from the comics and movies.
“There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing from the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics… But then there’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another ‘Deadpool’ film. So it’s going to be great.”
“Eventually” and “remotely” are definitely keywords here, but it could just be him trying not to spoil a secret project. Maybe that’s just me being hopeful.
Deadpool and Wolverine found worldwide box office success in 2024. Fans of the team-up have made it clear that even after three movies, Deadpool is still a character they want to see more of.
Reynolds has been on the writing team for the series since Deadpool 2. Just in April, when asked about another Deadpool solo movie, he told Sunday Today that Deadpool might not be the “center” of a future story, and that he’s “great in a group.” Whether or not this new statement contradicts his previous one is unclear—he could always mean Deadpool will appear in another, non-headlining movie. In a world where stories are being continued way longer than they rightfully should, I definitely appreciate Reynolds and Marvel’s willingness to let a series go.
So what does this mean for Avengers: Doomsday? Fans STILL aren’t sure. Rumors are circulating surrounding the hero’s involvement in the project. In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds said he hopes Deadpool crosses paths with the Avengers or X-Men. However, he said that he shouldn’t join either group. If he does, it would signify the “end of his journey.”
Now we have a lot of contradictory information floating around, and there’s nothing we can do but wait around and hope to see Wade Wilson on our screens again soon, whether as a main or a side character.
