Rumors abound in the MCU. Sometimes they are from the fans themselves as they project their hopes and dreams into the atmosphere. Other times, they come from people a lot closer to the action. An accidental slip of the tongue or knowing something but sharing it a little prematurely can happen to the best of us. But sometimes, even MCU actors get bad intel from strange places. The most recent one swirling around is from Rosario Dawson, who played Claire Temple in a few of the Marvel shows on Netflix. Rosario Dawson made an appearance at C2E2 and told the audience that she found out about a Punisher show happening with Jon Bernthal… but it turns out that info didn’t come directly from a reliable source. Hmm.
The above clip shows Dawson on stage talking about the supposed Punisher show. As we know, she didn’t get a chance to appear in the Jon Bernthal-led series, but she says she feels like this is her “second chance” to bring Claire Temple and Frank Castle together. She asks the audience for them to “make it happen collectively.”
However, Rosario Dawson later backpedaled on her Punisher statement via Twitter. “I can’t be trusted…!” tweeted Dawson. “Getting intel from fans during signings is iffy, apparently. My bad. I get excited. Confirmation is key when you’re told what you want to hear…” According to this statement, it appears she heard this from fans and thought it to be fact. Nerdist reached out to a Disney representative for additional comments.
But this seems to be all a rumor for now. If an MCU Punisher show did happen, it is not even certain if Rosario Dawson would return as Claire Temple at all. The idea of Jon Bernthal coming back as the Punisher isn’t too far-fetched, though. We know that Charlie Cox is reprising his role as Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again, a series due in 2024. And the Punisher is a favorite among many fans, including Jon Bernthal himself. So maybe we will see a Punisher revival in the MCU’s future. At least we know we will get more Rosario Dawson in the Ahsoka series.
