Kaiju Go Full Shakespeare in ROMEO & JULIET AND GODZILLA Comic

After 70 years, it feels like Godzilla has had a crossover with everyone. He’s fought with and against Kong, battled both the Justice League and the Avengers, and even stomped on poor Bambi. And now, via the official Godzilla blog, we’ve learned the King of the Monsters will soon take on the classics. This will take place in Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theater, a new four-issue line of one-shot comics dropping Godzilla into famous works of literature. This follows Tom Scioli’s original Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre limited series, now available in a collected edition. The first new entry is Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, written by Adam Tierney and drawn by Sean Peacock. You can check out the four covers and several pages for this delightfully goofy comic from IDW Entertainment below:

Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla

The premise centers on the notion that “Godzilla has been with us for centuries, maybe millennia, hiding in the fringes of history and literature.” We’re not sure how those atomic roars went unheard in, say, Great Expectations, but we’ll go with it. The upcoming Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, reimagines Shakespeare’s iconic play, only on a kaiju scale. The story will be “blending feuding families, budding romance, and large-scale destruction in Verona.” We fully expect that world-famous balcony to become so much rubble. Each one-shot also includes a five-page backup story by Tom Scioli, starting with Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham. Any guesses as to who the monster in question is?

As a fan of the original Monsterpiece Theatre, artist Sean Peacock says there is “some really insane stuff in this book, and that the chance to contribute to the follow-up is an honor.” We should hope that Godzilla party-crashing a Shakespearean tragedy results in really insane stuff! Otherwise, what are we even doing here? Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla from IDW Entertainment goes on sale April 8, 2026, with pre-orders due by March 2. The 52-page issue will set you back $7.99.
