Quentin Tarantino’s Stage Play Makes West End Debut in 2027

Quentin Tarantino is somewhat of a legend in the film world, to put it very modestly. Responsible for genre-bending films such as Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he’s certainly left his mark in history. For the first time, the director is veering away from the lights, camera, action and toward the stage. The Popinjay Cavalier, Tarantino’s first ever screen play, will debut on the West End in 2027.

According to an article posted on Variety on Wednesday, the play will be a “swashbuckling comedy.” Written and directed by Tarantino, The Popinjay Cavalier is expected to premiere in London in early 2027. Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment will produce.

The Popinjay Cavalier is set in 1830s Europe. Per a press release sent out Wednesday, March 11, it will be a “rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen.” It is currently in development.

Tarantino is certainly no stranger to making movies. Nor a stranger to the stage, as it turns out. Apart from giving himself a guest role in many of his own movies, Tarantino also starred in the 1998 Broadway revival of Wait Until Dark. The Oscar winner first revealed the news of his debut stage play during a panel at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. He shares that if all goes well, he might just adapt it for the big screen as his last movie.

“If you’re wondering what I’m doing right now, I’m writing a play, and it’s going to be probably the next thing I end up doing,” he said. “If it’s a fiasco, I probably won’t turn it into a movie. But if it’s a smash hit? It might be my last movie.”

As of now, a theater hasn’t been picked out for The Popinjay Cavalier. Casting, creative team, show dates and other details will come at a later date. In the meantime, you can sign up to see the show when it premiers. Priority booking for Tarantino’s stage play is live now at the play’s website.
