Philomena Cunk has learned everything there is to know about Britain, earth, and life. Or, at least she’s learned everything she can. Now she’s ready to set her sights on a topic that actually matters: movies. And the first image from Cunk on Cinema shows Diane Morgan’s confused reporter is ready to get hands on when she interviews Michael Bay, Benedict Cumberbatch, and other industry professionals, her typical hard-hitting, clueless questions.
The BBC has shared the first photo from its upcoming three-part series Cunk on Cinema. It features Morgan’s Philomena Cunk looking through a camera, which we can almost certainly assume she knows almost nothing about. Fortunately, we know a lot about what we can expect when Charlie Brooker and Mogan’s Cunk on Cinema premieres. Here’s how the BBC describes the latest special, which follows Cunk on Britain, Cunk on Earth, and Cunk on Life:
The three-part series will uncover the invention of the camera, to the New Wave filmmakers of the 60s, right up to the entrance of CGI and what the future of AI holds. Cunk will attempt to demystify it all while sitting in lumpy seats with stale popcorn, asking herself where did cinema come from? And why? What does it want? And why can’t it tell us?
During the show, Philomena will sit down with director Michael Bay, actor Benedict Cumberbatch, composer Daniel Pemberton, writer Steven E. de Souza, cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, critic Mark Kermode, filmmaker Mark Cousins, Sight and Sound magazine’s managing editor Isabel Stevens, Empire Magazine‘s editor at large and author Helen O’Hara, critic Catherine Bray, and BFI’s Bryony Dixon.
