PARKS & REC Cast Reunites for COVID-19 Benefit

Be honest, how many of you have been binge watching Parks & Rec during this trying time? Us too. It’s such a delightful, funny, and ultimately hopeful series. Which is why we couldn’t quite believe it when Deadline reported the show will be back for a one-off, 30-minute scripted special in aid of Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund.

According to Deadline “all of the original characters from the series will return in the Universal TV-produced special, played by original cast members Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Jim O’Heir, and Retta. Several guest stars from the Pawnee universe may pop in as well.”

If you’re wondering what you can expect from the show, it sounds like it will center around Leslie Knope trying to stay close to her loved ones during the pandemic whilst of course, respecting social distancing. Executive producer Michael Schur shared how the special came about. “Like a lot of other people, we were looking for ways to help and felt that bringing these characters back for a night could raise some money. I sent a hopeful email to the cast and they all got back to me within 45 minutes. Our old Parks and Rec team has put together one more 30-minute slice of (quarantined) Pawnee life and we hope everyone enjoys it. And donates!”

Whilst the circumstances are sad ones, we love that the positivity of Pawnee will return to our screens during this strange time. We can’t wait to see how all our faves are responding to the crisis and how their relationships have evolved in the years since the show ended. So, get your waffles at the ready because you’ll be able to watch the special one-off episode when it airs on NBC on Thursday, April 30 at 8:30 pm ET/PT.
