NZ Post AVATAR Stamps Capture Full Beauty of THE WAY OF WATER

The first Avatar movie was unquestionably a visual feast for the eyes. And, by all accounts, The Way of Water follows this tradition, leaning hard into exquisite visual effects and breathtaking settings to bring its world to life. But capturing a sumptuous universe on the big screen is one thing. It’s much hard to bring something beautiful to life on a smaller scale, while still maintaining the rich and nuanced elements of the story. But that’s exactly what NZ Post has done with its Avatar: The Way of Water stamps, the first of their kind.

It’s no secret that we love the work of NZ Post and its dedication to bringing nerdy stamps to life. There’s something just magical about the way huge cinematic universes distill down into gorgeous, tiny works of art that can fit in the palm of your hand. NZ Post’s The Lord of the Rings stamps have completely wow-ed us. And now, their Avatar: The Way of Water stamp collection follows in that tradition.

NZ Post Head of Stamps and Collectables Antony Harris reveals, “We are absolutely delighted to be the first country in the world to be releasing stamps and coins with striking scenes from the second installment of James Cameron’s Avatar film series,”

The stamps and coins celebrate not only Avatar but, of course, New Zealand. The movies were shot and produced there. More generally, NZ Post’s creations always honor the pureness of fan love. For now, six different Avatar: The Way of Water are available for pre-order in several different variations. And four coins will follow soon. These feature different characters, creatures, and scenes from the movie. They “were designed by Kiwi designer Chris Jones of Graphetti.”

Jones shares:

We were keen to hero the conservation theme of the film and show the parallels between what was happening to the fauna on the moon of Pandora and here on Earth… We also wanted to illustrate the notion of family sticking and fighting together – the strength of the family unit – which is also what this film is about.

The Avatar: The Way of Water stamps are now available for pre-order. They will likely ship around March 1, 2023.

We can’t wait to see what NZ Post cooks up for us next. One thing is for sure, their nerdy delights have our stamp of approval.
