Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will make history when it journeys into theaters this summer. It’s the first movie ever shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Even if it hadn’t been, though, it’s the Oscar-winning director’s follow-up to Oppenheimer. The Odyssey also features an absolutely loaded cast overflowing with some of Hollywood’s best stars. This is a “Big Deal” movie. But The Odyssey‘s latest trailer makes clear that while this might be an event film for everyone, it is very much for literature and mythology nerds ever, too. This latest look at The Odyssey features memorable villains, monsters, and beloved figures (both human and dog alike) from Homer’s epic.
If you’re also a total geek about Ancient Greece, epic poems, and mythology, this The Odyssey trailer is very much for you. It teases Polyphemus, Argus, Eumaeus, Tiresias, Charybdis (which means you know who is also nearby!), Penelope’s loom, Odysseus’ bow, and many other memorable characters and moments from The Odyssey.
But while those will excite literary lovers, this The Odyssey trailer mainly focuses on the heart of the story, a father (Matt Damon) trying to get home to his wife (Anne Hathaway) and son (Tom Holland), who refuse to give up on him. And they refuse to give up despite the many Suitors trying to eat them out of hearth and home. They’re led by Robert Pattinson’s Antinous, who is absolutely (fittingly) eating in this trailer. He’s not willing to wait for Penelope to choose him. He wants to control his own destiny and become the new King of Ithaca.
I’m sure things will work out for him!

The movie also stars Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, and Mia Goth. It won’t be 20 years before you get to see it, though. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey sails into theaters (where it will make nerds very happy) on July 17, 2026. If you’re into it, you can also pick up The Odyssey in book form today to get ready.
