Nike Announces Line of 1985 STRANGER THINGS Sneakers and Apparel

Every season of Stranger Things gives us a chance to step back into the ’80s, but this year we’ll literally be able to do that. Nike announced they are teaming up with the hit Netflix series ahead of its third season for a line of retro sneakers that include new takes inspired by the show, and a few that look like shoes available during the actual year the season takes place.

Stranger Things 3 will take place in 1985, which has already led to one amazing corporate tie-in. Coca-Cola is running a limited time re-release of their spectacular failure from that year, New Coke. Now Nike is getting in on the “nostalgynergy” (trademarked), with items that were actually popular back in the day. The company announced a line of old school sneakers and Hawkins High School apparel (that we first learned about at /Film), which will be released in two waves.

The first, the Hawkins High Collection, available on June 27, is a “collaborative capsule” that “incorporates Hawkins High’s green and orange color scheme and Tiger mascot” with three modern takes on retro-style sneakers. The line includes:

Nike x Stranger Things Blazer Mid ($120)

Nike x Stranger Things Air Tailwind 79 ($120)

Nike x Stranger Things Cortez ($120)

The Hawkins High Collection will also feature sweatshirts, t-shirts, and hats for Hawkins phys ed, which might also hint at a different kind of evil the boys will experience in season three.

On July 1, Nike will release the second wave, known as the OG Pack, which will feature the three pairs of sneakers in classic 1985 looks.

Nike x Stranger Things Blazer Mid ($120)

Nike x Stranger Things Air Tailwind 79 ($120)

Nike x Stranger Things Cortez ($120)

All of the OG Collection sneakers come with the year 1985 sprawled across the back of the shoes, the Stranger Things title on the tongues and inserts, as well as original-inspired Nike packaging and special edition pins.

Some people will want these because of the Stranger Things/Hawkins High tie-ins, others for their retro look, and some for both. But there’s one huge reason to get these that shouldn’t be overlooked: It’s a lot easier to run away from a Demogorgon with good sneakers, and you can always depend on something that’s held up over time.
