The publisher behind one of the most successful video game franchises ever will soon end the long wait for a new edition of Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar shared the news (which we first heard at The Verge) in a release outlining both the immediate and longterm future of the series. While it was full of news, the company saved the best for last. Here’s what they said comes next:

With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.

Rockstar did not announce any kind of timetable for the game. But it sounds like fans won’t have that much longer to go. The publisher is already well past the announcement phase of the debelopment process.

The last major releases in the franchise both came in 2013. That’s when Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. The company also announced that on March 15 both of those will will make their debuts on the PS5. As well as on the Xbox Series X and S. When they arrive they’ll come with a number of upgrades. That includes new 4K graphics modes, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, advanced haptic feedback, and more.

All of which the next Grand Theft Auto game will almost certainly boast. We just need to know when.
