There have been a lot of fathers out and about in our media recently. Pedro Pascal has especially added to this trend, playing a reluctant dad in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. And who doesn’t love a deadly but soft father figure learning how to love? But now, we have a new addition to the ‘reluctant parental figure trades explosions for hugs’ saga, Mother. In The Mother trailer, Jennifer Lopez, affectionately named J.Lo, puts her guns (both of the bullet and muscle variety) to work as she protects her daughter and learns how to become a true parent. Honestly, we love it: 10/10. We need more grizzled mothers in media, please.

A deadly female assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.
Short and sweet, but these few words really capture the spirit. We bet those dangerous men will feel very sorry very soon. Adoptive parental figures may find tragic ends themselves, but they almost always manage to protect their charge. And that means bad news for any bad guys.
Jennifer Lopez’s mother, who we like to think of as our mother too, and the rest of the movie will hit our screens soon. The Mother releases on Netflix on May 12, a.k.a on Mother’s Day.
