Netflix Announces BETWEEN TWO FERNS: THE MOVIE with Zach Galifianakis

Do you like long awkward silences? Are you a big fan of celebrities being insulted to their face? Would you describe your aesthetic as “aggressively simple” and “office plant-based”? And do you wish you could get all of that in feature film format? Amazingly, Netflix is going to make that happen, with Between Two Ferns: The Movie, which will bring Zach Galifianakis’ hilarious short interview sketches to the big screen.

The streaming site announced that a film adaptation of the two-time Emmy-winning series (Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program in 2013 and 2014) will come to Netflix later this fall, on September 20. It will be directed by series co-creator Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang Bang), who also co-wrote the film’s script with Galifianakis. Funny or Die, the home of the series, will produce.

Between Two Ferns is consistently one of our favorite comedy series on the web, but we can’t say we ever even considered it being turned into a movie. What will it even look like? Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix:

“Zach Galifianakis dreamed of becoming a star. But when Will Ferrell discovered his public access TV show ‘Between Two Ferns’ and uploaded it to Funny or Die, Zach became a viral laughing stock. Now Zach and his crew are taking a road trip to complete a series of high-profile celebrity interviews and restore his reputation. Directed by Scott Aukerman, Between Two Ferns: The Movie is a laugh-out-loud comedy that gives new insight into the curmudgeonly, beloved outsider Zach Galifianakis has created over the years.”

We already want a sequel.

As for who else will show up, safe to say we’ll see Will Ferrell in the film, but he won’t be the only celebrity “we’ve heard of” to make an appearance.

Anyone know how well ferns travel on the road?
